Small Investors please pay attention.. When you buy a stock you know exactly what you’re getting stock quotes are everywhere and updated instantaneously. Commissions information is available everywhere and online brokerages constantly advertising their commissions online and on advertising of all sorts. However, if you want to buy a bond you may have to pay attention. Bond buyers routinely get told one thing and the reality may be something completely opposite. If you buy bonds from your broker you may never know because those fees are not disclosed. Commissions vary tremendously and the likelihood that you’re paying too much is a certainty. Ed Butowsky, wealth manager, financial advisor, and managing partner of Chapwood Investment Management, discusses how FINRA is getting involved and looking to increase the disclosures on the bond markups.
